Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Christian Ehrhoff will represent Germany at the 2016 World Championships, the German Ice Hockey Federation announced. The tournament will take place from May 6 through May 22 in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia.
“I’ve always said that I will play anytime for national, if all goes well,” Ehrhoff said in the release. “For me it’s an honor to wear the German jersey. I want to play my part that we play a good World Championship.”
Ehrhoff, 33, recorded no goals and two assists in eight games for Chicago after being acquired in February in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Rob Scuderi. Prior to joining Chicago, Ehrhoff tallied 10 points in 40 games with the Kings.
The Moers, Germany native is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason and is unlikely to be brought back. He has six goals and 13 points in 33 career games at the world championships.
Ehrhoff is the fifth Blackhawk named to a tournament squad, joining Erik Gustafsson (Sweden), Vincent Hinostroza and Tyler Motte (United States) and Artemi Panarin (Russia).
