Blackhawks assign 6 players to AHL for IceHogs’ Calder Cup Playoffs run

The Chicago Blackhawks are sending reinforcements to the AHL for the Rockford IceHogs’ Calder Cup Playoffs run.

Forwards John Hayden, David Kampf, Andreas Martinsen and Victor Ejdsell and goaltenders Jeff Glass and J-F Berube were all assigned to the AHL, the team announced Sunday.

Glass and Berube both picked up three wins in Chicago after starting goaltender Corey Crawford went down with an injury.

Martinsen scored 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) in 61 AHL games before being called up to the Hawks. He scored a goal in nine games during his stint with Chicago.

Hayden (13 points) and Kampf (11 points) saw the most time in Chicago with 47 and 49 games, respectively.

The IceHogs had their six-game winning streak and nine-game road point streak snapped with a 4-3 loss to the Texas Stars on Saturday. Despite the loss, Rockford’s magic number to clinch a playoff berth dropped to one after the Chicago Wolves’ victory over the Milwaukee Admirals.

Rockford missed the playoffs last season after making the postseason the previous two years. In 2015, the IceHogs fell 4-1 in the second round to Grand Rapids and were swept 3-0 the next year in the first round. Rockford hasn’t made it past the second round since becoming the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate.
