The Chicago Blackhawks lost more than two points in a loss to the Anaheim Ducks at the United Center on Saturday.
Chicago placed Marian Hossa on injured reserve after taking a hip check from Hampus Lindholm that sent him sliding into the boards, the team announced Sunday. In a corresponding move, Chicago recalled forward Vincent Hinostroza from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.
By being placed on IR, Hossa will have to sit out at least seven days. That means he’ll be eligible to return for the outdoor game at TCF Bank Stadium against the Wild on Feb. 21, although it’s unclear whether he’ll actually be ready to take the ice again by then. This is different from long-term injured reserve, so the Hawks do not receive any temporary salary cap relief. Instead, the move simply opened up a roster spot for Hinostroza.
Hossa left the game in the second period and did not return after taking a hip-check from Lindholm that sent him into the boards. Hossa laid on the ice before needing assistance from teammates and medical staff to head to the locker room. He did put much pressure on his left leg as he left the ice.
The 37-year-old forward has 10 goals and 18 assists in 53 games this season.
Hinostroza, 21, did not record a point in four games with Chicago earlier this season. The Bartlett, Ill., native has tallied 10 goals and 17 assists in 41 games for Rockford.
