Blackhawks’ Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane, Connor Murphy to play in Stars and Stripes Showdown

Chicago Blackhawks forwards Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane and defenseman Connor Murphy will play in the Stars and Stripes Showdown on Sunday, Aug. 26.

Kane led the Hawks in scoring this past season with 76 points, including 22 on the power play. His 27 goals were second to DeBrincat’s 28. Kane was named the MVP of the 2018 men’s World Championship after leading the tournament in scoring with eight goals and 12 assists in 10 contests.

Murphy had two goals and 12 assists in 76 games during his first season with the Hawks.

J.T. Compher, a Northbrook, Illinois native, will also play in the event. The Colorado Avalanche forward is coming off his first full NHL season with 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists) in 69 games. University of Wisconsin’s Tony Granato of Downers Grove will serve as one of the four coaches. Granato was Team USA’s head coach for the Winter Olympics, where the U.S. went 2-2-1.

The event is to celebrate the memory of USA Hockey assistant executive director Jim Johansson, who died Jan. 21. He was 53.

There will be a ceremonial puck drop, live game-worn jersey auction, an online auction, special raffles and more. The game will be played at 2 p.m. in Plymouth, Michigan, at USA Hockey Arena.
