Blackhawks prospect Jakub Galvas named to Czech Republic’s preliminary roster for World Juniors

Blackhawks prospect Jakub Galvas was named to Czech Republic’s preliminary roster Monday for the 2019 World Junior Championship.

Galvas, who was selected by Chicago in the fifth round in the 2017 NHL draft at the United Center, has two goals and nine points in 24 games for HC Olomouc in the Czech Republic’s top division. He had two goals and 13 points in 42 games last season for HC Olomouc.

The 5-foot-11, 165-pound defenseman did play for the Czech Republic at the last World Juniors tournament. He had two assists in seven games as they fell to the United States 9-3 in the bronze-medal game. The Czech Republic hasn’t medaled at World Juniors since they captured bronze in 2005, and they haven’t won it since 2001.

Canada is the reigning U20 World Juniors champion. They’ll host the upcoming tournament from Dec. 26 to Jan. 6 in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia.
