Blackhawks’ prospect Tyler Motte is not Hobey Hat Trick finalist

The three Hobey Hat Trick finalists have been announced, and Chicago Blackhawks‘ prospect and Michigan forward Tyler Motte is not one of them.

The three finalists for the award, which honors college hockey’s top player, are Michigan freshman forward Kyle Connor, Boston College junior goaltender Thatcher Demko and Harvard senior forward Jimmy Vesey.

The three finalists were selected from an initial list of 10 candidates, which Motte was on, by a 27-member selection committee and fan balloting. The criteria for the award is outstanding skills in all phases of the game, strength of character on and off the ice, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements.

Motte scored 32 goals and 24 assists in 38 games during his junior season. He was third in the nation in points, only to his two teammates (Connor and JT Compher), and second in goals to Connor when his season ended March 26 in the regional final of the NCAA Tournament.

The 2016 Hobey Baker Award will be presented April 8 at the Tampa Theatre during the Frozen Four in Tampa, Fla.
