Blackhawks prospect watch: Garret Ross’ big week, Indy Fuel on 3-game win streak

Here is the weekly look at how some of the Chicago Blackhawks‘ prospects are performing around the globe, starting with the minor league affiliates.

Rockford

The IceHogs (23-13-4-2) split four games this week, but skated away with a one point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Charlotte Checkers (Hurricanes) last Tuesday. Rockford rebounded with a 4-0 win over Iowa (Wild) on Friday and a 3-2 shootout win of their own over the Chicago Wolves (St. Louis Blues) the next night. Two days later, the Wolves handed them a 4-1 loss on a Martin Luther King Day matinee.

Garret Ross picked up a point in each game. He had an assist in Tuesday’s loss to Charlotte, scored a power-play goal on Friday against Iowa and capped the weekend with another helper against Chicago. Ross had 13 goals this season.

T.J. Brennan contributed two assists in the victory over Iowa and scored the game-winner in the shootout against Chicago. Ville Pokka had an assist in Tuesday’s and Friday’s contest.

Phillip Danault scored the opening goal against Charlotte and had an assist in the win over Chicago. Ryan Hartman scored the other tally, while Mark McNeill, Peter Regin and Matt Carey were each stopped in the shootout. Hartman also potted a goal in the victory over Chicago.

Brandon Mashinter netted a goal and added an assist on Pierre-Cedric Labrie’s goal in Tuesday’s victory. Labrie had the lone tally, a short-hander, in Monday’s loss to Chicago.

Indy

The Fuel (10-21-4-3) extended its five-game point streak with a third consecutive victory Monday. Kyle Stroh potted the game’s lone goal in a 1-0 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators. All three wins have been with Mac Carruth in net, who made 26 saves in the shutout.

Stroh also scored a shootout goal in a 2-1 victory over the Carolina Stingrays, and a goal and an assist in the 4-2 win over the Greenville Road Warriors before he added an assist in the 3-2 loss to Greenville for a five-point week.

Nick Bruneteau netted a goal in the loss to Greenville and added two assists throughout the week.

Garett Bembridge had an two assists, while Vincent Arseneau had a goal and an assist after being acquired on loan from the American Hockey League’s Manchester Monarchs. The Fuel also traded their leading goal scorer Robert Czarnik to the Ontario Regin in exchange for future considerations.

NCAA, USHL, and others

Nick Schmaltz (F), North Dakota (NCAA) – Schmaltz had an assist in North Dakota’s 7-1 win over Niagara on Friday. The freshman has 17 points (3G, 14A) in 19 games this season.

Luke Johnson (F), North Dakota (NCAA) – Johnson tallied his seventh assist in a 5-0 win over Niagara on Saturday. The sophomore has 11 points on the season.

Tyler Motte (F), Michigan (NCAA) – Motte netted a power-play goal in the first period and added the game-winner in the second frame; he also assisted an empty-netter in a 10-6 road win over Ohio State. He ranks third on the team with 21 points (7G, 14A) in 18 games this season.

John Hayden (F), Yale (NCAA) – Hayden potted the game-winning goal in the second and had the primary assist on the Yale’s opening tally in a 5-1 win over Brown.

Anthony Louis (F), Miami (NCAA) – Louis and the RedHawks did not play this week. He had an assist and two shots in the No. 5 RedHawks 3-2 loss to St. Cloud State last week.

Michael Paliotta (D), Vermont (NCAA) – Paliotta scored the long goal in the Catamounts’ 4-1 loss to Northeastern on Friday, then picked up a pair of helpers the next night in a 2-2 draw. He has 15 assists and 21 points in 23 games this season.

Vince Hinostroza (F), Notre Dame (NCAA) – Hinostroza added two assist in Notre Dame’s 6-1 victory at Connecticut on Sunday. He leads the Irish with 16 assists and is third with 19 points this season.

Fredrik Olofsson (F), Chicago Steel (USHL) – Olofsson netted a power-play goal to send Chicago into overtime. They would fall in the extra session 3-2 to USA U-17 team on Saturday. He has 27 points this season.

Matheson Iacopelli (F), Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) – Iacopelli potted his 15th goal of the season in a 4-3 win over the Omaha Lancers on Friday. He has 20 points (14G, 6A) this season.

Ivan Nalimov (G), Admiral Vladivostok (KHL) – Nalimov did not play this week. Last week, he allowed three goals in a 6-3 win over Ugra. He has a 3.00 goals against average and .892 save percentage in 21 games this season.

Carl Dahlstrom (D), Linkoping (SHL) – Dahlstrom was held scoreless in two games this week. He has two goals and two assists in 37 games this season.

Robin Press (D), Södertälje (Allsvenskan) – Press was held scoreless in one game this week. He has 11 goals and 16 assists in 39 games this season.
