Blackhawks’ Trevor van Riemsdyk set to undergo wrist surgery, out 8 weeks

Trevor van Riemsdyk’s season might be over.

The Chicago Blackhawks offered an update on the 23-year-old rookie defenseman:

Trevor van Riemsdyk suffered a right wrist injury in a recent game. He will undergo surgery on Tuesday, April 7. We anticipate a full recovery and a return to full hockey activities in approximately eight weeks.”

Van Riemsdyk has been with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs since late February while working his way back from a left patella fracture, which occurred in November. He had three assists and is a plus-2 in eight games with the IceHogs.

He also suffered a season-ending ankle injury at the University of New Hampshire last season.

Van Riemsdyk played in 18 games with the Blackhawks to begin the season. He is in the first year of a two-year contract.
