Blackhawks week ahead: 2016 NHL All-Star Game break

The Chicago Blackhawks travel to Carolina to see former teammates Joakim Nordstrom and Kris Versteeg when they take on the Carolina Hurricanes in their last game before the 2016 NHL All-Star Game break. The actual break starts Thursday with the highly-anticiapted 3-on-3 tournament Sunday.

Let’s take a look at the upcoming week in Blackhawks’ hockey (all times Central):

Monday – Off day

There are six games on the schedule highlighted Buffalo visiting the New York Rangers on NBCSN. Philadelphia will host Boston in a bruising rivalry game, while Dallas hosts Calgary and Arizona visits Minnesota.

Central Division: CGY at DAL, ARI at MIN

Tuesday – Blackhawks at Hurricanes, 6:30 p.m. (NBCSN, CSN-C)

The Hawks travel to Carolina for their final game before the All-Star break. Chicago dropped the first game 2-1 at home, it was the last loss before they went on a 12-game winning streak.

Elsewhere, there’s not really any games that jump out as “must-see” games. New Jersey visits Pittsburgh, while Columbus and Montreal finish a home-and-home back-to-back. Ottawa hosts Buffalo in a game featuring a lot of former players against each other, and Colorado is in San Jose on NBCSN.

Central Division: ARI at WPG, NSH at VAN, COL at SJ

Wednesday – Off day

The NHL completes the first half with four games. Toronto visits Tampa Bay with lots of Steven Stamkos trade talk excepted. Washington hosts Philadelphia on NBCSN and Colorado visits Los Angeles for the NBCSN nightcap. Nashville also vista Calgary.

Central Division: NSH at CGY, COL at LAK

Thursday – Fan Fair begins

The four-day NHL Fan Fair begins with indoor and outdoor concert series.

IceHogs: Rockford hosts Chicago (Blues), 7 p.m.

Saturday – 2016 Star Skills Competition, 6 p.m. (NBCSN)

The Star Skills Competition will feature six events. Fan-elected captains will lead the team selection process to determine which players will participate. All 44 players will compete in at least one of the six rounds.

Sunday – 2016 NHL All-Star Game, 4 p.m. (NBCSN)

Team Metropolitan takes on Team Atlantic before Team Pacific battles Team Central in the 3-on-3 tournament. The winner of each game will play in a championship game.
