Blackhawks release prospect-heavy roster for split-squad game vs. Bruins

The Blackhawks recalled more than a dozen players from the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL on Friday in advance of the team’s split-squad preseason game against the Bruins on Saturday at TD Garden in Boston. Chicago made the transactions because the NHL team is already in Berlin, Germany, for Sunday’s preseason finale against Eisbären Berlin in the NHL Global Series.

Here are the players who will make the trip with Rockford head coach Derek King to Boston:

Forwards: MacKenzie Entwistle, Alexandre Fortin, Brandon Hagel, Mikael Hakkarainen, Matthew Highmore, Reese Johnson, Philipp Kurashev, Jacob Nilsson, Aleksi Saarela, Dylan Sikura, Tim Soderlund and Kris Versteeg*

Defensemen: Nicolas Beaudin, Adam Boqvist, Lucas Carlsson, Philip Holm, Chad Krys, Jake Ryczek* and Joni Tuulola

Goaltenders: Kevin Lankinen, Matt Tomkins*

*AHL contract

The roster does not include forward John Quenneville, who was assigned to Rockford on Friday after he cleared waivers. The game will offer a preview at line combinations and defensive pairings King could use with the IceHogs ahead of their season opener Oct. 4 against the Iowa Wild in Des Moines, Iowa.

With Saturday’s game being Boston’s final preseason outing, coach Bruce Cassidy is expected to dress a full NHL lineup. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the game being televised on NHL Network.
