Blackhawks add Colby Cohen to TV studio lineup; Mayers, Konroyd reportedly out

The Blackhawks’ pre and postgame shows are going to look and sound different in the 2021-22 season.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Blackhawks announced that Colby Cohen will be joining the organization as a Content Analyst:

A statement from the team detailed Cohen’s new role with the team, which will include appearances all over Blackhawks content and he’ll be a regular in-studio during NBC Sports Chicago’s broadcasts of Blackhawks games next season. Cohen debuted with the organization last season on April 17 in a game against the Red Wings, serving as a color commentator when Eddie Olczyk was unavailable due to his responsibilities with the NHL’s national broadcasts.

Cohen has been bouncing around in various broadcast roles after a hockey career that included three NHL games with the Colorado Avalanche during the 2010-11 season.

What that statement did not include is a pair of reported departures from the Blackhawks studio crew. According to Jeff Agrest of the Sun-Times, former Blackhawks players Jamal Mayers and Steve Konroyd will no longer be a part of the NBC Sports Chicago broadcasts. Each had served as studio analysts for several seasons, while Konroyd has often subbed in for Olczyk as a color commentator alongside veteran play-by-play voice Pat Foley, who’ll be calling his final season of Blackhawks hockey over the next eight months.
