Blackhawks commit to rebuilding plan: News, analysis, takeaways

The Blackhawks are officially in a rebuild, the team announced Tuesday with a letter to fans.

“We’re committed to developing young players and rebuilding our roster,” the Blackhawks said Tuesday in an open letter to fans posted on social media. “We want more than another window to win; we want to reach the summit again and stay there — an effort that will require a stockpile of emerging talent to complement our top players. The influx of youth and their progression will provide roster flexibility and depth throughout our lineup.”

Chicago won the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015 but have not advanced past the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs since.

Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman did to two noteworthy podcasts to discuss the team’s decision to go public. He did one podcast with NBC Sports Chicago, which is partly owned (25 percent) by Blackhawks chairman Rocky Wirtz and broadcasts the team’s games, and another with The Athletic.
