The Chicago Blackhawks face the Detroit Red Wings tonight at the Untied Center for their first preseason game at home in 2018. Both teams faced each other back on September 20th at the Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit where the Wings defeated the Hawks 4-2.
Cam Ward will get the nod for the Blackhawks tonight, after sitting out in the last two preseason games for Chicago. The 34 year old goaltender did see some ice time for Chicago during the first preseason game in Columbus, where he stopped 13 of 15 shots faced (.867 SV%). Tonight, the team will look for Ward to go the distance for the first time this preseason as the Hawks play their first home game of the preseason. Meanwhile, Corey Crawford continued his rehab with a familiar face today:

There is still no news on when the official return of Corey Crawford will be.
With the news of Chicago assigning defensemen Joni Tuulola and Carl Dahlstrom to Rockford earlier today, the coaching staff will focus their attention on the remaining eight defensemen that are battling for the seven starting spots in the lineup. While some people are writing off Adam Boqvist as an addition to the lineup, Head Coach Joel Quenneville has some thoughts on how the young Swede will fit into the 2018-2019 lineup:
Q on Boqvist: “Just watching the power play out here, Bokie looked like he was real comfortable out there playing with some top guys. He’s got a lot of composure for a young kid in this situation, which you’ve got to commend him on. But the games are a bigger test.”

The Blackhawks are 1-2 this preseason, with three games remaining.
