Blackhawks’ Dominik Kahun joins Germany for 2019 IIHF World Championship

Blackhawks winger Dominik Kahun joined the German national team late last week for next month’s World Championship in Slovakia. German national coach Toni Soderholm also added Anaheim’s Korbinian Holzer and Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl to the team.

Kahun scored 13 goals and 37 points in his rookie season for the Blackhawks after signing with the team following his third full season with EHC Munchen in Germany’s top league. The 23-year-old’s six penalty minutes also tied Colorado’s Sam Girard for the league-low among skaters with 82 games played.

Kahun will make his fourth consecutive World Championship appearance. The Czech-born German has tallied four goals and 14 points in 22 career World Championship games. He also recorded five points (two goals, three assists) during Germany’s silver-medal run at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Germany is in Group A in Kosice along with Canada, Denmark, France, Finland, Great Britain, Slovakia and the United States. The top four teams in the Group will advance to the playoff round. The tournament runs from May 10-26 in Slovakia.
