The Blackhawks added a third assistant coach to Jeremy Colliton’s staff Tuesday afternoon when they hired veteran coach Marc Crawford.
The 58-year-old Crawford comes to Chicago with 18 seasons of NHL coaching experience, including 1,169 games as head coach. He won the Stanley Cup in 1996 with the Avalanche and holds a 556-431-182 all-time NHL coaching record. He’s also had head coaching jobs in Vancouver (1998-2006), Los Angeles (2006-08) and Dallas (2009-11).
Crawford most recently served as interim head coach for the Senators this past spring. He led Ottawa to a 7-10-1 record to close out the season before D.J. Smith was hired from the Maple Leafs to be the Senators head coach for next season. Prior to his interim role, Crawford was an associate head coach for three seasons working with defensemen and the penalty kill.
With the addition of Crawford, Colliton’s staff now includes assistants Sheldon Brookbank and Tomas Mitell and goaltending coach Jimmy Waite. Matt Meacham is the head video coach and Crawford’s son, Dylan, is the assistant video coach.
