Kris Versteeg, who won two Stanley Cup championships with the Blackhawks in 2010 and 2015, signed a one-year AHL contract with the Rockford IceHogs on Monday.
Versteeg split last season between Avangard Omsk in the KHL and Växjö Lakers HC in the SHL. He had seven goals and 16 points between the two teams in 23 regular-season games then added four goals and six points in the SHL playoffs.
Versteeg, who turns 33 on May 13, had two separate stints with the Blackhawks from 2007-10 and 2014-15. Chicago acquired Versteeg from Boston in February 2007 for Brandon Bochenski. Versteeg then played the rest of that season with the Norfolk Admirals before the Blackhawks moved its AHL affiliate to Rockford. He tallied 49 points (18 goals, 31 assists) in the regular season and added 11 points (six goals, five assists) in the Calder Cup playoffs.
Versteeg then earned a full-time NHL roster spot and helped the Blackhawks end their Stanley Cup drought in 2010 before he was traded to Toronto in a multi-player trade that summer.
Versteeg played for Toronto, Philadelphia and Florida before he was re-acquired by Chicago in November 2013. He played the next two seasons with the Blackhawks and won a second Cup in 2015 then was traded again to Carolina, where he played before stops in Los Angeles and Calgary.
