Blackhawks prospect Alexis Gravel invited to Canada’s camp for World Junior Summer Showcase

Hockey Canada named Blackhawks goaltender prospect Alexis Gravel to its national junior team’s evaluation camp Wednesday.

The Summer Showcase, which runs July 28 to Aug. 4 in Plymouth, Michigan, includes international competitions between Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States in preparation for the 2020 World Junior Championship. The Canadians will be split into two teams — red and white — for the showcase.

Gravel — a 2018 sixth-round pick — was 33-16 with a 2.49 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage for the Halifax Mooseheads, who finished as runner-ups to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the QMJHL Presidents’ Cup Final and Memorial Cup. The 19-year-old was one of 10 goalies to earn an invitation to Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence Goaltending Camp earlier this month. The 6-foot-3, 219-pounder is expected to return to Halifax next season.

Gravel could be joined by a future Blackhawks prospect as defenseman Bowen Byram and centers Dylan Cozens and Kirby Dach, all of whom are options for Chicago with the No. 3 pick in the NHL draft this weekend in Vancouver, also made the camp.
