Blackhawks prospect Matthew Highmore out 4-6 months after right shoulder surgery

Blackhawks forward prospect Matthew Highmore will be out for four to six months after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder Tuesday. Dr. Scott Trenhaile and Dr. Michael Terry performed the procedure.

The timetable for Highmore’s return means his season is effectively over.

Highmore has three goals and four assists in eight AHL games this season with the Rockford IceHogs. He was leading the team in scoring before missing seven games with his right shoulder injury.

Highmore scored two goals for the Blackhawks last season in 13 games. He played majority of his season with the IceHogs, finishing second in scoring on the team with 43 points (24 goals, 19 assists) in 64 regular-season games before adding nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 13 Calder Cup playoff games.

The 5-foot-11, 181-pound left winger has two years left on his entry-level deal with a $775,833 annual salary cap hit.

The IceHogs continues their six-game road trip Friday with back-to-back games against the Texas Stars and San Antonio Rampage. Rockford also plays Tuesday night in San Antonio.
