Blackhawks re-assign Dennis Gilbert to AHL

The Blackhawks re-assigned defenseman Dennis Gilbert on Saturday to the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL.

Gilbert blocked one shot, had four hits and posted a 59.26 Corsi-For rating in 14:57 of ice time in Chicago’s 4-3 season-opening loss to the Flyers on Friday in Prague. The 2015 third-round pick skated with Slater Koekkoek and Erik Gustafsson on the third pairing in the game, the second NHL game of his career.

The roster move likely points toward the return of defensemen Calvin de Haan and Connor Murphy (groin), who both missed Friday’s game.

Chicago also activated forward John Quenneville (right hip) from injured reserve and sent him to Rockford. He previously cleared waivers but was not assigned.

The Blackhawks host their home opener against the Sharks on Thursday, while the IceHogs have their home opener Oct. 12 against the Grand Rapids Griffins (Red Wings).
