Jordan Schroeder signs with KHL’s Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod

Jordan Schroeder, who was a pending unrestricted free agent, signed a one-year contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the KHL on Friday after one season with the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.

Schroeder led the IceHogs in goals (19), assists (26) and points (45) in 62 regular-season games. Despite his production, the 28-year-old did not receive a call up. Chicago acquired him last July from the Blue Jackets in exchange for goaltender Jean-Francois Berube.

Prior to this past season, Schroeder played in at least 21 games in every season since 2013, suiting up for the Canucks, Wild and Blue Jackets in that span. The former 2009 first-round draft pick has 42 points in 165 regular-season NHL games.

Schroeder is the third Rockford player to leave the organization this offseason, joining Victor Ejdsell and Frederik Olofsson. Ejdsell signed a two-year contract with Färjestad BK in the Swedish Hockey League and Olofsson, who was released from a professional tryout after three games, inked a deal with MODO Hockey in Sweden’s second division.
