Blackhawks sign prospect Michal Teply to 3-year entry-level contract

The Blackhawks signed prospect Michal Teply to a three-year entry-level contract worth $825,833 per season Friday. Teply announced the news on his personal Instagram page hours before the team’s announcement.

Teply led all Western Hockey League rookies in points (63), assists (34), power-play goals (12) and game-winning goals (eight) in 53 games with the Winnipeg Ice. His 29 goals tied for first among WHL rookies.

The right-handed shooting winger also had five assists in as many games for the Czech national team at the under-20 World Junior Championship. He will turn 19 years old on May 27 and will be eligible to play at the World Juniors tournament again.

Teply — a 2019 fourth round selection (No. 105 overall) — is a slide candidate, which means if he plays in fewer than 10 NHL games next season, his contract won’t start until the 2021-22 season. He’s eligible to play for the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL during the 2020-21 campaign as an under-20 player because he was drafted out of the Czech Republic and not a Canadian Hockey League club.

Teply joins Kirby Dach as the second player from Chicago’s six-player 2019 draft class to sign with the team.
