Keith Carney at Hawks’ camp, could make roster?

Keith-carney_mediumComcast Sportsnet was just showing a little report on defenseman Keith Carney, who was invited to the Blackhawks’ training camp and apparently has a chance of sticking with the roster as a #6 or #7 defenseman. Though he is 38 years old, Carney is a combined +30 over the last two seasons while playing in 141 games with the Minnesota Wild. Obviously, he had some pretty good years in Chicago, playing here from 1993 until being traded in the middle of the 97-98 season. He was a +31 in the 95-96 season and I always remembered him as being a very solid blue-liner and an intelligent player.

It’s a little too early to really know if he can make this team out of camp, but if he proves that he still has something left in the tank, I sure wouldn’t mind seeing him stick around as a good veteran defensive presence.
