Andrew Shaw is coming back to Chicago.
The Blackhawks re-acquired the power forward and a seventh-round pick in the 2021 NHL draft from Canadiens in exchange for second- and seventh-round picks in 2020 and a 2021 third-round pick, the team announced Sunday.
Shaw’s contract carries a $3,900,000 million salary cap hit through the 2021-22 season.
The soon-to-be 28-year-old played his first five seasons with Chicago after being drafted by the team in 2011, and won two Stanley Cup championships in 2013 and 2015. The Blackhawks traded him in June 2016 to Montreal in exchange for two second-round picks (Alex DeBrincat and prospect Chad Krys).
Shaw posted a career-high 47 points (19 goals, 28 assists) in 63 games for Montreal last season despite missing the entire month of January with a neck injury. The right-handed winger tallied 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 27 games once he returned.
He was also 18th in even strength goals above replacement last season and 77th in wins above replacement.

Shaw is the latest in a long list of players Blackhawks general manger Stan Bowman has brought back from championship teams:

The move leaves the Blackhawks with five picks for the 2020 NHL draft in Montreal and seven for the 2021 draft.
Chicago has $8,036,539 million in salary cap space now, according to CapFriendly.
That total does not include pending unrestricted free agent center David Kampf and pending restricted free agent winger Brendan Perlini, both of whom are in contract talks to re-sign. The league’s free agency period at 11 a.m. Central time Monday.
