The Blackhawks placed veteran defenseman Jason Garrison on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract Wednesday after he did not report to the AHL.
Garrison cleared waivers and was scheduled to report to the Rockford IceHogs, but did not. The Blackhawks will provide an update on his status Thursday.
Garrison was part of a four-player deal Sunday that saw Chicago send defensemen Brandon Manning and Robin Norell to Edmonton for forward Drake Caggiula and Garrison.
The 34-year-old Garrison signed with the Oilers on a league-minimum contract after appearing in training camp on a player-tryout contact. In 17 games this season, he has one goal.
Chicago is the fourth team for Garrison in the last three seasons and sixth in his career.
Garrison joins Jordan Maletta as players Chicago has put on unconditional waivers this season. The Blackhawks acquired Maletta as part of the Marian Hossa trade with Arizona in August and terminated his contract in October. The month before Maletta said he wasn’t medically cleared to play and that he was “interning” as a coach with his former OHL junior club, the Niagara IceDogs.
