With the Blackhawks bowing out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the first round for the first time since 2012, we have a much longer offseason to fill with content and fun than normal. One of the ways we have decided to that is to do this 30 day “challenge” in which we will present a topic for you, the SCH commenters and community, to answer. Every day for 30 days we will have a new topic to discuss in the comments.

Day 7: Your unpopular hockey opinion?
Adam: This is one of the more interesting topics, because I’m sure there could be a bit of controversy in this. One person thinks something is very good/important, another completely disagrees, and we have conflict. Let’s remember to keep this civil, my friends. Anyway, my most unpopular hockey opinion is in regards to analytics, and it is this: I really, really, really hate per 60 stats. I understand why they’re used, but I often feel like simply looking at those things ignores a lot of other important contextual aspects of a player’s game. Plus, a lot of per 60 stats make David Rundblad look like he’s one of the Hawks best defensemen, so how can we really trust them?
Brandon: High scoring games do not mean more entertainment. There is no need to push for ways to increase scoring. A one or two-goal game keeps fans on the edge of their seats.
