With the Blackhawks bowing out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the first round for the first time since 2012, we have a much longer offseason to fill with content and fun than normal. One of the ways we have decided to that is to do this 30 day “challenge” in which we will present a topic for you, the SCH commenters and community, to answer. Every day for 30 days we will have a new topic to discuss in the comments.

Day 8: Who is your favorite hockey writer?
Adam: Well, not to toot my own horn, but… just kidding. As much as I do believe I am a good writer, I am not so naive to think I am the best there is (though maybe someday I will be! Fingers crossed!). I’d like to offer a two part answer to this. When it comes to Blackhawks beat writers, I really like Chris Hine. He’s a fantastic writer, very objective, unafraid to tackle hard issues and be a voice of reason, and I had the honor of meeting him at this 2016 NHL All Star Game and he was a very nice guy. In terms of hockey writers in general, it doesn’t get much better than Elliotte Friedmann for me. His 30 Thoughts columns are must reads every week, and the knowledge and information he shares is fantastic. Those two guys are my favorite hockey writers right now.
Brandon: I partially agree with Adam on this. As far as Hawks beat writers, Chris Hine is my favorite. His feature on Jonathan Toews growing up was outstanding, and before he covered the Hawks he had great features on Notre Dame players, so expect more great work from him. In general though, Brad Schlossman of The Grand Forks Herald is my favorite hockey writer. He covers North Dakota hockey, men and women, and is the best college hockey writer in the nation. He’s been a great source of information on Hawks’ prospects as well.
