2020 World Junior Championship: Day 5 recap on Blackhawks prospect Michal Teply

Each day throughout the World Junior Championship tournament, Second City Hockey will provide updates on how Blackhawks prospects Antti Saarela and Michal Teply are performing. For more coverage on the tournament, visit the World Juniors section.

United States 4, Czech Republic 3 (OT)

Teply had an assist, a game-high six shots on goal, was on ice for one goal against and was 1-for-3 on faceoffs in 22:27. Teply was moved down to the second line to start the game, but was shifted up to the top line once Jan Jenik (Coyotes) left the game at the end of the second period with a knee injury.

He recorded his fourth assist of the tournament with a secondary assist on Libor Zabransky’s power-play goal in the first period.

Teply didn’t get an assist on Petr Cajka’s power-play goal to send the game to overtime, but he played a major role in it.

Teply was puck watching and lost track of Alex Turcotte (Kings), who step up Cole Caufield (Canadiens) for the game-winning goal.

What’s next

Antti Saarela and Finland play Switzerland, while Teply and the Czech Republic face off against Canada. Both games are at noon Tuesday.
