The 2020 World Junior Championship begins Thursday, Dec. 26 in the Czech Republic. Games will be played at Ostravar Arena in Ostrava and Werk Arena in Trinec.
The tournament will be broadcasted on NHL Network in the United States and TSN in Canada. All playoff round games will be broadcasted.
Finland is the reigning tournament champions after they defeated the United States 3-2 in overtime. The Finns start their title defense on opening day against rival Sweden.
Blackhawks forward prospects Antti Saarela (Finland) and Michal Teply (Czech Republic) will play in the tournament.
Format
The preliminary round will feature 10 teams split into two groups of five. The top four teams from each group advance to the playoff round, while the teams that finish last in each group play each other in a relegation game.
Group A: Finland, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Sweden, Slovakia
Group B: Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Russia, United States
The playoff round is an eight-team single-elimination bracket concluding with the gold-medal game Jan. 5. The losers of the semifinals will also play that day in the bronze-medal game.
