The Chicago Blackhawks failed to get their eighth consecutive victory on Friday night as they fell 3-2 in overtime against the Washington Capitals.
Despite trailing by one for the majority of the game, a deflected goal from Marian Hossa tied the game at 2-2 with just 23 seconds remaining in regulation, sending it to overtime.

Hossa’s overtime goal was his seventh goal in his last eight games, giving him a total for 14 points on the season (8 goals, 6 assists).
The Capitals lead throughout the game began in the first, when Marian Hossa drew a holding penalty against the Capitals’ Evgeny Kuznetsov, just over five minutes into the game. Forty seconds into the Blackhawks on the power play, a turnover at center ice sent Washington’s T.J. Oshie in Corey Crawford’s direction. A pass from Oshie went up and over the stick of Brent Seabrook, right onto Jay Beagle’s tape, allowing him to bury the puck past Crawford to give the Capitals a short-handed goal.
Just 22 seconds after giving up the lead, the Blackhawks got redemption with a shot from Brian Campbell going over the glove of Braden Holtby, to give Chicago the power play tally. Soupy’s goal was his first power play goal in exactly two years, with his last coming on Nov. 11, 2014 against the Islanders.

With just over five remaining in the first, a wrap around from Beagle snuck past Corey Crawford to give him his second goal of the night to give the Caps the go ahead goal. The Capitals held the 2-1 lead throughout the majority of the game, with the second period remaining scoreless.
Scott Darling made a brief appearance in Friday’s game, as Corey Crawford headed to the dressing room, likely with an equipment malfunction. In his short lived time on the ice, a stretch save from Darling on Oshie kept the Hawks within one.
Chicago came out in the third looking for the tying goal, with Coach Q switching the lines around.
The lines were shifted around in the third, with Ryan Hartman moving up to the first line with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, as the Hawks desperately looked for that game tying goal.
With Hossa coming to save the day late in the third, the Blackhawks headed into overtime leading the Caps in shots, 34-27.
However, Chicago would not be able to complete their come back as a pass from Dmitry Orlov allowed Marcus Johansson to snipe a top shelf tally over Crawford’s glove, giving Washington the 3-2 overtime victory, snapping the Hawks’ win streak at seven games.
