Drew MacIntyre is packing his bags for Germany.
The Chicago Blackhawks goaltending “prospect” signed with the Hamburg Freezers of Deutsche Eishockey Liga, the team announced.
MacIntyre, 32, was acquired by Chicago in a trade for Dennis Robertson in February with the Carolina Hurricanes. He was immediately assigned to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, where he won his first two starts before dropping the next five. He appeared in eight total games for Rockford.
In December, he represented Team Canada at the Spengler Cup and helped capture the title.
MacIntyre posted an 11-13-1 record, 3.09 goals-against average and .890 save percentage in 28 games with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers prior to the trade. The Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, native has collected a 225-161-6 mark and 16 shutouts in 440 career AHL games across 13 seasons with Grand Rapids (2004-06), Manitoba (2006-08), Milwaukee (2008-09), Chicago (2009-11), Hamilton (2010-11), Rochester (2011-12), Toronto (2012-14) and Charlotte (2014-16).
MacInntyre’s departure leaves the IceHogs with four goaltenders: Michael Leighton, Mark Visentin, Eric Levine and Mac Carruth.
