Rockford IceHogs win 3rd straight with 4-1 victory against Cleveland Monsters

Ian McCoshen scored his first two goals of the season, and Lucas Carlsson and Dylan Sikura extended their respective point streaks for the Rockford IceHogs (Blackhawks) in a 4-1 win against the Cleveland Monsters (Blue Jackets) on Saturday at BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford.

McCoshen blasted a shot from the top of the right circle at 7:18 of the third to make it 3-1 then scored into an empty net with 1:03 remaining for the 4-1 final.

Collin Delia made 27 saves and had his second assist this season for the IceHogs (25-25-1-2), who have won three straight and five of their past six games. He has won two straight games and four of his past five.

Maxime Fortier scored for Cleveland (23-25-2-2), which has lost two straight and three of its past four. Brad Thiessen made 22 saves on 25 shots.

Sikura extended his career-high point streak to 10 games when he fired a shot from the left face-off dot on the power play for a 1-0 lead at 3:31. He has 12 points (three goals, nine assists) during his point streak. Carlsson had an assist on the goal to extend his assist streak to six games. He has eight assists during his streak.

Brandon Hagel scored his team-leading 18th goal to make it 2-0 at 16:57 when he flipped a rebound from MacKenzie Entwistle’s shot above Thiessen’s blocker.

Delia made a spectacular diving save across the crease to deny Calvin Thurkauf a goal at 11:57 of the second.

Fortier cut Rockford’s lead to 2-1 at 18:09 of the second when he banked a shot from the right circle off the left post.

What’s next

The IceHogs host the Grand Rapids Griffins (Red Wings) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Rockford.
