Elsewhere in Chicago sports, Allie Quigley scored 22 points to lead the Sky past the Liberty 101-92. Ian Happ hit a grand slam in the Cubs’ 10-1 win over the A’s. The Cubs also signed catcher Jonathan Lucroy. Ivan Nova pitched eight scoreless innings as the White Sox beat the Tigers 8-1 in Detroit.
The Bears announced they’ll unveil statues of Hall of Famers George Halas and Walter Payton on Sept. 3 at Soldier Field. The Fire acquired midfielder Michael Azira and a 2020 second-round MLS SuperDraft pick from Montreal in exchange for defender Jorge Corrales.
On Thursday, the Bears open their preseason slate at home against the Panthers. The Cubs head to Cincinnati to start a series against the Reds.
