Just a few days after it was announced that he was named as one of the three Bob Johnson Award winners for USA Hockey in 2018, Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane was named “Male Athlete of the Month” for Team USA’s Best of May awards.
Kane was named team captain of the 2018 USA Men’s Hockey Team last month and earned tournament MVP honors during the team’s bronze medal finish at the IIHF Men’s World Championship held in Denmark.
Kaner made his mark on USA Hockey history during his time with the team, shattering tournament records with 20 points and 12 assists during the World Championship. He earned at least one point in nine of the 10 games played, and was the first player in US history to be named the tournament MVP. Kane’s best game of the tournament was a five-point performance in a 13-1 win over Korea, with a pair of goals and three assists. He finished the tournament with an assist in the bronze medal game, which Team USA won 4-1 over Canada.
With 20 points during the tournament, Patrick Kane is now tied for 3rd with Craig Smith, and Johnny Gaudreau for the most points earned in a player’s USA Hockey career. He’s just four points away from passing Mark Johnson, the all-time leader and member of the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” Olympic team.
