Andreas Martinsen signs one-year extension with Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks continued forming their roster for the 2018-19 season on Thursday morning, announcing a one-year deal with unrestricted free agent forward Andreas Martinsen.

The 6-foot-3, 229-pound winger from Norway was acquired by the Blackhawks on October 4, 2017 in a deal that sent Kyle Baun to the Montreal Canadiens. Martinsen spent most of the season with the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL, but did get a call-up on an emergency basis late in the season when the Hawks were dealing with a rash of injuries. He appeared in nine games, scoring one goal and delivering 35 hits. He was the first Norwegian to play for the Blackhawks.

Down in Rockford, Martinsen had 28 points in 64 regular-season games andadded five points in 13 games during the Calder Cup Playoffs, as the IceHogs ran to the Western Conference Final.

Martinsen is a veteran of 128 career NHL games with three different teams, and figures to be in for a major battle to add to that total in Chicago, with forward talent aplenty throughout the Blackhawks organization.
