Matt Tomkins is fighting for more starts in net for the Rockford IceHogs.
The Blackhawks goalie prospect was involved in a different type of fight Saturday night — against Milwaukee Admirals (Predators) goaltender Troy Grosenick.
After matching roughing penalties to Rockford’s Chad Krys and Milwaukee’s Tanner Jeannot at 8:36 of the third period, the goaltenders went to center ice and engaged in a fight. Both players threw a couple shots then Tomkins tossed Grosenick to the ice in a headlock before the officials separated them.
Both goalies were assessed a 2-minute minor penalty for leaving the crease, a 5-minute major for fighting and a 10-minute game misconduct. Collin Delia and Connor Ingram entered the game for Rockford and Milwaukee, respectively.
Milwaukee’s Yakov Trenin completed his hat trick with a shot past Delia at 12:07 in the third period for the 7-2 final.

This isn’t the first fight of Tomkins’ career as he won a fight in 2017 with the Indy Fuel in the ECHL.
